Marina and The Diamonds

Some of you may recognize her by her song that became really hot on the radio, "Primadonna". When I had first heard the song, I loved it. But as most songs on the radio, I listened to it, got sick of it and never looked into the artist. Around December of last year a friend of mine told me to listen to "How To Be A Heartbreaker" and I fell in love with Marina all over again. I kid you not, this song was on repeat for about a week. So good. Within the past couple months though, I took the time to look into this artist and her music.

Born October 10, 1985, Marina Diamandis grew up in the middle of the pop movement.
In 2005, she created the stage name "Marina and The Diamonds". When asked how she came up with the name she said:

"I never envisaged a character, pop project, band or solo artist. I saw a simple group made up of many people who had the same hearts. A space for people with similar ideals who could not fit in to life's pre-made mold  I was terribly awkward for a long time! I really craved to be part of one thing because I never felt too connected to anybody and now I feel I have that all around me." ('Now Real Life Has No Appeal' 20 June 2010)

Now in 2013, she has two albums out, "The Family Jewels" and "Electra Heart". Under her belt she has an MTV Music Award, a Virgin Media Music Award, an Attitude Magazine Award, and two PopCrush Battle of the Brits awards.

Personally, I love her style. She is a mix of really fun retro pop songs and calm music. A great mix if you ask me.

Here are some of my favorite songs by Marina!

My friends always give me a hard time for this song because the title is "Sex Yeah", but it actually has great meaning in the lyrics!

Daughter

I have recently been caught up with a band that a friend of mine showed me. This band is called Daughter. They are an English Indie Pop band that was formed in 2010. They met at The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance. They have released two EP's: "His Young Heart" and "The Wild Youth". After being signed by 4AD, this March, they released their album "If You Leave".

Left to right.

Remi Aguiella, who is the drummer.
Elena Torna, who is the lead singer and the original solo artist that started Daughter.
Igor Haefeli, who is the guitarist.

I cannot express enough how glad that this band was shared to me. Their music is soul soothing. It fills the cavities in your heart that you get when you just want to give up and throw your life away.

Their most popular song is entitled "Youth".

And also a couple songs that I love.

Peaceful Listening. (:

"Is it 'Hi' or 'Hey?'"

Today was a very exciting day for the 5SOS Family. A new music video and song titled "Wherever You Are" was released today as the boys' start back on the Take Me Home tour with One Direction. As the description on the video says, "we made this video just for YOU", and indeed it is. The boys' added snippets of videos they had filmed throughout the years which the family voted for. It's amazing, these boys love their fans so much more than the fans can even imagine. You can see it in the way they are, in their tweets, their keeks, their instagram posts, everything. They care about their fans so much, that they truly consider them family.

The video is a treat. I know that I already love it. It really captures the boys we fell in love with.

Now excuse me while I cry for the next 10 years.

5 Seconds of Summer

This week, I would like to showcase a band called 5 Seconds of Summer.

The band, formed in 2011, originates from Sydney, Australia, and has four members.

(Left to right.)
Michael Clifford at the guitar and assisting in vocals.
Calum Hood as the bass guitar and also vocals.
Luke Hemmings as the lead vocalist and guitar.
Ashton Irwin at the drums and vocals.

This band is absolutely phenomenal! Not too long ago, they were sitting in front of the camera playing for the audience of YouTube. Now, they are playing for ever fan at One Direction's "Take Me Home" tour.

Now don't get scared by hearing that they're opening for One Direction! They are not a boy band! They take inspiration from artists such as Blink-182, All Time Low, Ed Sheeran, Mayday Parade, and Boys Like Girls. So I'd say that they play a mixture of Pop/Punk Rock music. Something that I definitely fancy (I don't know, I like few bands in that genre, but when I do I love them. Which you'll come to find out.).

They are definitely worth the listen. I posted the videos for Heartbreak Girl, Try hard, and Out of My Limit down under (Get it? Okay, I'll stop.).
